First impressions of Field
target:
Field
target first impressions: I used a mates Logun with hunting scope and
listened to him on how to shoot. 1st go I hit the 60 m one. This really
p*ssed him off, and I felt good, but it was just beginners luck.
I bought a logun mark two and will be trying it on the field target ranges. I have a parralax range finding scope so you can set the windage and elevation according to how it shot before at that range. I have been setting them up so I now know elevation and the beauty of this system is you can dial in how far away it is, read off your chart you’ve made what the elevation is and click it up or down accordingly. Then the pellet will go wherever that cross hair is facing. Normally, a pellet wont go wherever the cross hair is facing, ie with a hunting scope you would aim using a different part of the cross hairs higher or lower than the reticle, leaving the elevation screw alone. At 60 metres I thought I had the scope sighted up ok. I took three shots one after the other: the first hit the kill zone of the metal pigeon, the second hit the golf ball and the third hit the golf ball again. When things work leave them well alone. Elevation could be changed for 30, 40, and 50 m but these values are recorded on a chart used when you know the range of the target. I was impressed with the nicko sterling parralax scope. The first time I used it was on a mates and I zeroed it in and missed the 40m target by four inches. Tried again and missed by four inches. Both pellets through the same hole though! The gun was a non standard air arms 400 single shot. At 60m the variation when you snatch a shot, is much more pronounced, seemingly three times the amount you moved. Nearer targets are not only easier to aim at, the errors are less important. To get an idea of how much each different error will make will take practice. This is the joy of the range which is open all day. You can learn as you go and not have to listen and work it out but see how much each thing accounts for. Eg windage. And if you are using a non FAC air rifle how much does the accuracy fall off at high ranges and how important is this as to the total accuracy. Or the difference in accuracy between a pistol and a rifle at 20m.
