If you call - I'll always soothe the cries you make"
Biography

Darius was born 19/8/80 in Bearsden, Glasgow and named after a Persian king (his dad’s from Persia), He has 2 younger brothers - Aria and Cyrus. Both of his parents, Avril and Booth, are Doctors.

At the age of 4, Darius appeared in Peter Pan and later sang in various choirs and musicals, and learnt to play piano and saxophone.  Brought up on the music of The Beatles, George Michael, Alanis Morisette and Seal, he was around 9 when he heard ‘More Than Words’ by Extreme on the radio. He fell in love with the idea of a lone voice with an acoustic guitar and wanted to learn to play.  He promised to do the chores round the house for the rest of the year if his mum would buy him a guitar. She succumbed. By Christmas that year, Darius could play ‘More Than Words’ himself. Soon after, he wrote his first song - a valentine's present to a girl!

Darius realised that he was meant to perform whilst appearing in the opera "Carmen", and at 16 started his own band - "Jade"

Nothing came of it, and he went off to university to study English Literature.  It was whilst studying there that friends dragged him to the Popstars auditions, a tv talent show to find a new band....

Sporting a ponytail and goatee beard, Darius became "infamous" for his rendition of Britney Spears' "Hit me baby one more time", saying that he could "feel the love in the room" and for his parting words on the show "I will have a platinum selling album by the time I am 30"

A year later, Darius was encouraged to audition for another tv talent show "Pop Idol", this time looking for a solo artiste.  He narrowly missed out on getting into the final 10, but was re-instated and given yet another chance when Rik Waller was forced to give up due to a sore throat.

Darius was to eventually come third, behind winner Will Young and Gareth Gates.  He turned down a recording contract with Simon Cowell, saying he preferred to perform his own material, and waited for the right deal to come along.

He signed to Mercury records, and his debut single, Colourblind, went straight to number one in the summer of 2002.  Later that year, his album "Dive In" went platinum, achieving the prediction he had made on Popstars 8 years early!  He toured the UK in the Spring of 2003, and also wrote a book "Sink or Swim", based on his experiences of the tv talent shows.

Darius then went quiet.  Unknown to most, his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February 2004, and he chose to devote all his time to his family. However, Booth Danesh insisted that Darius did not put his career on hold for him, and he began writing his latest album - Live Twice - a dedication to his father.

The first single from that album - "Kinda Love" - was released in October 2004 and made top ten.  The Danesh family received the fantastic news that Booth's cancer had gone into remission in December 2004!

The second single - "Live Twice" is released on 10th Jan 2005.
