Svelte-like SOUND

A whisper in the background, barely perceptible, an anguished intake of breath, the tinkle of the Sony windgag as it slips between the pebbles on Brighton beach. Out of reach forever.... all par for the course, filming. More expense for the freelance sound recordist, Ho Hum " That's not a hum, is it?"
What's this got to do with svelte-like sound?
Good question, well put.
Whatever their physique, the sound recordist spends much of the day shadowing the footsteps of the cameraperson, unless of course, they are walking backwards when the heel is stepped on and the shoe comes off. A willowy performance is vital. Syncronised footsteps on shingle is a skill which takes decades to perfect.

MY BACKGROUND
I have spent my working career in Film, Television and Radio. From 1975 - 1979 I was a sound assistant at London ITV franchise holder, Thames Television, continuing as a location sound recordist from 1979 - 1991. From 1991 I have freelanced in Television features and documentaries.
