WODEHOUSE

ROOTS
It is said that the Wodehouse or Woodhouse name has its roots in Norfolk England.  This may be true, as the name in Ireland was not prevelant until the 17th century, around the time when the Cromwellian Adventurers settled there.

SPELLING
Among many spellings of the name you can find Widdis and Woodows.  In my own case unable to find my grandfather on the 1901 census, I resorted to all sorts of weird and wonderful spellings, I hit the jackpot with Wadehouse

WIGTOWN
Many Irish fleeing the effects of the famine came to Scotland, some stayed in Wigtown others passing through on their way to the big cities looking for work.
