ARBROATH
Arbroath - Arbroath is situated on the north east coast of Scotland and like most east coast marks cod is the species that is the target, if a trip is planned try and get a day when the wind is blowing for best results. The marks that I will write about are the ones that I myself have fished, but virtually anywhere around here will produce fish.
The promenade - The promenade is located on the your right as you enter Arbroath and consists of about half a mile of road that runs along the water front. The best site I myself fish is just behind the night club but that is not to say that anywhere along the front won't produce fish. It is best fished two hours upto and 2 hours after high tide as the water retreats a long way, so fishing any other time will consist of a long walk to the water. Best baits to use are the normal big cod baits like lug worm, mussels, razor fish and mackerel. These baits on there own or used in a cocktail should see you in the fish. End tackle I use myself is a pennel snood onto a sliding trace with a grip lead, simpler the better if you ask me.

The Harbour
The harbour is yet another place where fishing is done from the boot of your car virtually. With it being just along from the promenade the tackle and bait are the same, although the ground is smoother and less tackle will be lost. Best spot at the harbour is at the end next to the light house, but be warned that in a big blow it will be extremely busy so get there early to get a spot. Also watch out for the returning fishing boats as they cut right across to get into the harbour.

Auchmithy beach

Auchmithy consists of a small harbour which fishes like most of Arbroath when the sea is rough. The spots to fish are between the rocks on the left of the harbour (see above pic) and along the cliffs, although they can only be accessed at low tide and fishing is limited to 2hr to low and 2hr of the tide up as you will be cut off, so be warned. Fishing between the rocks is best at high tide I find others have sworn by low tide, but there is far more water there at high and the picture at the bottom of the page was caught with the tide dropping. You can take your car down the hill but the road is extremely rough and steep so be warned. Baits and tackle are again the same as above.
