The name Barassie arrived its name from all the golf courses in the surrounding area. The meaning of Barassie is that in the old days a Barassie was a golf club not dissimilar to a 3 wood nowadays.

The names Barassie and Troon are synonymous with the sport of golf, although Troon has an Open golf championship course Barassie has a championship qualifying course in its boundaries.
