BALLAST BANK TROON
Ballast Bank Troon - The Ballast Bank is situated in Troon on the West coast of Scotland and consists of a rocky coastline of about half a mile.  The sea bed fished into is kelp and rock with patches of sand, so there can be tackle losses.  Fish you can expect to catch include doggies, eels, cod, pollack, coalies, wrasse and flatties.  The best fishing spots include the slipway and "paddies island", the slipway is old and broken so you cannot launch a boat.  The slipway is located near the harbour end of the ballast bank and is easy to get to.  Tackle used is the simpler the better as it is rough ground fishing, I use one hook pulley rigs.  The best baits to use are Peeler crab, mussel, fish baits and worms.  There are plenty of wrasse there so when planning a fishing trip bring your spinning rod, your beachcaster and your uptider/boat rod, the beachcaster can be cast out and meanwhile the spinning rod can be used for either spinning or float fishing for wrasse and pollack, the boat rod can also be used to cast a bait out for eels as there are some big ones there.  Best times to fish are on a rising tide.

   - Paddies Island - This mark is an island to the left of the slipway and is only accessible at low tide, this mark gives the angler an opportunity to cast into deeper water.  Tactics and bait should be the same as above with the conger line dropped at the right front of the island as there is a deep hole there.  Float fishing here should result in bigger wrasse but not always.
