NEWTON-ON-AYR
Newton-on-Ayr - Newton is situated between Prestwick and Ayr on the west coast of Scotland, it consists of a long promenade of about a mile.  The sea bed that is fished into is sand.  The best spots tend to be the far end or the beach nearest the harbour as the water is deeper there.  The species likely to be caught are flatties, coalies, doggies, cod and the odd bass.  Baits that are best are peeler crab, worms, fish baits and mussels.  The rig I use myself is a three hook flapper rig as you don't have to blast it into the distance to get fish also try and vary the distance of your cast as quite often the fish are close in, especially with the flatfish.  This venue comes into its own when there is a stiff north westerly wind as the big swell this creates brings the fish in.  A warning is that when the wind is blowing the waves will pound over the wall so be careful.  This venue is best fished from about 2hrs to high tide and then down as the water retreats a long way, but it is possible to fish it over low only you will need to go down off the promenade and fish on the sand, also it is possible to wade out at low tide for better distance but I don't do it myself as it is hardly worth it.

                       - Other areas worth mentioning are the rocks on your right as you enter the beach,  these rocks are a bit of a walk but it can be rewarding.  The rocks fish the same as the rest of the beach with the same tactics, although try and fish with your bait along side the rocks on the sand for best results.
