WIGTOWN - NEWTON STEWART.
Wigtown Newton Stewart - Wigtown lies on the West of Scotland and is an inlet of the Solway Firth, Dumfries and Galloway, Wigtown Bay lies at the mouths of the river Cree, river Bladnoch and water of Fleet.  The fishing marks are not in Wigtown itself but outside of the town, if you drive for about a mile or two then the fishing marks become apparent.  There are no set fishing marks as such as almost anywhere will see you in the fish as they are all the same.  You can fish as soon as the river on your right meets the sea.  The species most likely to be caught are Doggies, smoothhound, flatties, bass, tope and eels.  The ground being fished into is sand so there should be no tackle losses, a grip should be used as there is a tide run created by the outflow of the river itself.  Rigs that can be used depend on the species wanted, mostly I fish with larger 2 hooked traces for the bass and smoothhound but if flattie bites are there scale down the hook sizes. The best baits to use are undoubtedly crab with worms a second, also you could use fish baits and sandeels, although with the latter doggies are the likely species you will catch.  I have found that starting nearest the river mouth at high tide and moving further away as the tide drops have given best results.  If you move a good way away from the river mouth then there is always a chance of a tope, as this is Scotland's prime tope location.  If you want to throw a separate rod out for tope then you should use any eels that you catch for bait.  This venue actually fishes better out in a boat but launching a boat is not easy here as launching spots are hard to come by.
