SYNOPSIS

A drama set in the Liverpool dockyards in the early 1930’s. Having deserted his family fourteen years before, Peter McCabe (Robert Newton) returns home after resigning his shipboard post of fireman in a fit of temper. His children are growing up and his eldest, Nora (Avis Scott), has taken on the responsibility of the family. It is Nora’s choice and Nora’s wish that her mother (Kathleen Harrison) should not see him, despite the fact that she still loves him. There is George Alexander (Robin Netscher) to think of, a son McCabe doesn’t even know he has. Nora wants to protect her family from her father, a man she hates, but when McCabe kills a man in a fight Nora can do nothing to prevent her mother taking George Alexander to see him in prison.
